Well, the swimming is over. The final day was yesterday and I'm so proud of my performances and those of all of my United States teammates as well. We did really great. In the end, in appears as if all of my races will officially count, which I'm very happy about. I swam a total of 6 races, results to the right. South America is such a different culture and very much the opposite of the US. I'm having a great time and looking forward now to spending the next two days supporting my country in the other events and seeing BA as a tourist. I hope everyone has a very safe and happy new year, Feliz Ano, and I'll see everyone when I return to the US.

There is a great little side story to the 800 free. Of course it was the last individual event of the meet, so I was overly ready to have this swim over. At first we thought there were only 8 of guys in the event, so we could swim all together. this is what I was waiting all meet for, to compete against the much younger kids. In the end, it didn't happen. We had two heats, but I did get to swim with three others, including a really nice 14 year old from the USA. The 14 yo vs the 39 yo. we were literally neck and neck, back and forth the entire race. At the 700 meter wall they usually ring a bell, aka the bell lap, so the timers and spectators know it is the last 100. I usually am so into my race that I don't even know. In this meet they blow whistles. And it seemed like twice per each swimmer at 700 meters. I was maybe two body lengths ahead at the 700 flip. I looked back to my teammate, 2 lanes over , after hearing the whistle a bunch of times, he stopped to look, then I, thinking something was wrong. Then all I heard was my coaches yelling to keep going. Needless to say, he out touched me in the end by 2 seconds and I was very near a best time. Probably would have been if not for the whistle. I should have expected this, from the nature of the rest of the meet.

In the end, and reflecting back, I had an awesome time swimming in a really nice pool with really great teammates. We all bonded very well. Talk with you all later. Keep checking the site, as I add pics and maybe some other news of my wonderful time at the 11th Pan American Maccabi Games. Go USA!
